Help James get a new wheelchair
Mr James Lappin, resident of Newton Upper Falls and friend to many of Harvard square, is in dire need of an electric wheelchair. He suffers from a severe speech disorder and has an ampuated leg. As a result, he is not employable and welfare has not been enough to cover the cost of a new wheelchair.
I don't know James personally, but I pass by him every day on the way to class. When I passed by him yesterday and spoke to him, he could only speak in strained syllables. He asked for a piece of paper and a pencil, and wrote the following, with a tear in his eye:
"Need a donation for an electric wheelchair and the state only pays so much. Can we get some way I can get funds from any body that could hand out some money for a new wheelchair? Cause I have no idea [how] to ask for the large amount of cash for a new wheelchair. Durable. Pretty please!
Mr James Lappin, 62 Thursdon Road, Newton Upper Falls"
James is unable to even communicate with most people around him, much less ask for money. Any amount of money to help him with his wheelchair will go a long way.
If you can't donate, but live nearby, go visit him in his spot on Mass Ave in front of the Smith Center! He's really nice and loves company.
UPDATE: I am currently in the process of setting up a wheelchair fitting appointment for James. Wheelchairs that fit James's needs typically cost over $10,000, on top of various other expenses to get it fitted. Thanks to all of your support, we are nearly at this goal!
