Portraits To Save Jess!
Donation protected
Hi Everyone,
My dear friend Jess is truly in danger and has been in crisis for years, struggling to survive in Minneapolis with physical and mental health challenges, chronic pain, disability, poverty and isolation. These difficulties work together to exacerbate her dwindling wellbeing and I'm asking you to help my friend get back on her feet.
In 2015, after losing her house in Milwaukee, her family urged her to relocate to Minneapolis, promising their support. However, her family has refused to be a part of her life and have continued to remain unhelpful.
Her health prevents her from being able to work and Jess must rely on meager assistance from the state, which is not enough to help her truly get back on her feet. Jess is isolated in the suburbs of Minneapolis with no friends and no one to help her. She is one of the most resourceful people I know and she just cannot continue to do this alone! Her overall health is in rapid decline and it is crucial that she leaves Minneapolis before it truly kills her.
Jess has been there for me and so many others -- from opening her former home to fellow misfits and artists, to making for community through art in a variety of ways, to being a solid reliable friend. I am asking you with urgency to help me help her survive and thrive!
I am offering pet portraits at two different price points (black and white or full-color CMYK) in order to raise money to help Jess relocate to a safe city where she has a friend, a safe place to live and a supportive community. *EDIT* As of Fall 2018, I am broadening portrait options to include your beloved human friends and loved ones!
Raising these funds and helping Jess relocate are an important first step in helping her live her life as healthfully and as independently as possible, and I fear what will happen if she is unable to leave.
Achieving this goal will cover the cost of gas, travel costs, and first/last month's rent plus deposit as well as some medical assistance for Jess! I am endlessly grateful for you taking the time to read this and I hope that you will consider helping us--I can't wait to draw your sweet loved ones!
Don't have enough dough/don't want a portrait in exchange? Donate what you can--every little bit counts!
With Gratitude,
Rachel
