I was asked to set this page up by my niece Jodie.
Jodie has always been a sick child but doctors never knew what was wrong with her, Jodie battled through school, where she missed a lot of her education from been ill.
It wasn't until April/may this year that Jodie was told she was suffering from a condition called chiari malformation one, where her brain had slipped down into her spinal canal and she would need surgery.
Jodie's 1st surgery was June 2018where part of her skull and vertebra was removed in the hope to relieve pressure in her head.
Jodie was admitted to hospital again in July and August with the same symptoms as before the operation, where she was told the operation had not worked so she would need more surgery, she had to go away and have a think as the consultant was offering her a choice of 2 operations, one was to remove both cerebellar tonsils from the bottom of her brain or to have her neck pinned and screwed into place. She had two weeks to decide.
Jodie went to see the consultant at the beginning of September where she chose to have the cerebellar tonsils removed, she was in hospital the following week for the operation, Jodie spent 9 days in hospital, she came home for less then 24 hours and was rushed back in where she fought chemical meningitis, she was in hospital for another 10 days,Jodie then managed to be at home for 9 days before again been rushed back into hospital with bacterial meningitis.
Jodie is now home and recovering well, she has her good days and bad days, we are waiting to see the consultant to see if the second operation has worked, if not they may need to pin her neck.
Jodie and her family are going through a lot as they have been told that there house is no longer adequate for Jodie's needs and they need to move, but while Jodie has got all this going on she has one thing on her mind and that is to raise money for ward 4 where she has been treated everytime she has been admitted to hospital. So please help by donating to Jodie's cause, every little helps xx
