Help Jon get to Japan
Donation protected
My name is Jonthan Summers. Currently, I am a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL. I study percussion performance with a personal interest in Japanese marimba, and culture.
In the summer of 2016, I went on a journey that had undeniably changed my life. I stayed in Tokyo for 8 weeks and had studied marimba with one of the most prominent and influential composer/musician in the world, Keiko Abe. Ever since I was a child it had been my dream to visit and study in Japan. Though I had finally realized this dream and learned a great deal about Keiko Abe's music, the marimba, and Japanese culture, there is still so much I can learn and share with all of you, if I am able to return to Japan for further study.
I am starting this campaign, as the title suggests, to go back to Japan for one month of intense study in the summer of 2017 at the Toho Conservatory of Music in Sengawa, Tokyo.
The money will be used for the following:
-Plane ticket
-Housing
-Fee for studing at the Toho Conservatory.
-Transportation to the school
All fee estimates are based off last year's costs*
Any money that may be left over after those items have been paid for, will be donated to a charity (future updates on that).
The Campaign ends after the last day of May.
As I mentioned, this trip will allow further study of Japanese marimba and culture, but it also brings something back to you. In April of 2017 I will be giving a lecture recital where I will discuss Japanese culture, and Keiko Abe's music as I had experienced it, in the summer prior . This will be broadcasted live online for those of you not local to Dekalb, IL. (more details to come).
My goal is to bring back a piece of Japanese culture to share with you all in the most vivid way that I can, through music. So upon my return from Japan in the summer of 2017 I plan to give another lecture recital which will be further in depth, and showcase an even larger piece of my experience in Japanese marimba music and culture.
There is no other way for me to express my deepest gratitudes with all of you who choose to help.
I look forward to bringing back a piece Japan to share with you.
Thank you so, so very much!
Sincerely,
Jonathan Summers
