Help Karla & Jewels Return Home

Donation protected
The beautiful girl in the picture posted is my baby sister Karla.  She is one of the most selfless, kind and passionate humans I know, she is constantly putting aside her own needs for the sake of others happiness. Unfortunately now Karla, her best four legged pal Jewels and our parents are the ones who need help. At first I didn't know where to look or who to ask, but I am desperate in easing my family's pain so I opted for GoFundMe as this option will thoroughly spread Karla's story to the many corners and we can possibly get the help we need, even the smallest amount will be appreciated.
On June 19 as Karla slept in the passenger seat of a travelling car on route through Kelowna BC to travel with friends her world was turned upside down, literally...... when by no fault of her own the car she was in was involved in a horrific accident. Karla and two other human passengers, a small puppy and Karlas mastif X (Jewels) were immediatley ejected from the car and all suffered serious injuries and broken bones. The driver of the vehicle was the only person not thrown vigerously from the car. Tragically one of our close family friends later past away as a direct result of the crash,  Now leaving my poor sister to not only heal physically but to also have to heal mentally and emotionally. On top of all the madness there was mass miscommunication between authority figures and accident victims leaving everyone to believe there was only one dog in the accident and in turn poor Jewels was left out on her own injured and scared to fend for herself and suffer more pain as she was later seen to be struck by another vehicle days later before being rescued and brought to a vet.              Karla and Jewels live with my parents in Williams Lake BC, a five hour drive from Kelowna.  As soon as my parents heard of the accident they made the trip to be by their baby girl as she heals and mourns the damage done. My family is wealthy in love but unfortunately not to wealthy when it comes to money as my father is getting up there in age and cannot work due to health issues of his own. Leaving my mother, bless her soul, to work hard at the job she has carried for the past 25 years to support their home. I recently learnt my parents even spent a couple nights in their car as they were low on funds and wanted to be close to their hurting daughter. This kind people, is where I ask for help in supporting Karla.  With both my mom and dad being by Karlas side this last week there is no money being made to pay bills back home and feed the fur babies that await their return. My parents are barely making it by as is in Kelowna without having to worry of meals and gas and other basic needs. Karla will still be recovering for many days to come say doctors and even when she can go home she is going to need some funds to survive as she will not beable to work for some time.  And on top of all that financial stress, Jewels needed a lot of attention and care from a Veterinary hospital leaving Karla with a fairly large bill she will need to pay. As i sit here and look at pictures of the crash and pictures of my poor sister whos head and face is so swollen and scraped I cry because I wish i had the ability to make this whole situation better, I wish I had the means to ease all the pain and hurt, but simply i just dont, so please kind people of this world, please help my parents live in more comfort as they need to be there for Karla and overall... please help Karla and Jewels come home to their loved ones stress free and not have to worry about how they will survive the next few painful moths. They didnt ask for this. Please help send my baby sister and her fur baby home so they can heal in peace and comfort. Anything will help, and i promise we will forever be grateful.

Apon talking with Karla, any funds raised that are deemed extra and not needed in aid of her and Jewels recovery will be donated to funeral cost and helping the family of her friend who passed next to her in this horrific crash.                       Karla and Jewels thank you greatly, and I am
beyond grateful as well. Even just the fact you took
the time to read our story,
Sincerely, one broken hearted big brother,
                                                                                            Matthew Mindel. And thank
                                                                                               you to my beautiful girlfried
and Karlas sister in-law, Melissa for
                                                                      helping me edit this post.

Below I have attached a news article and picture I found with more details on Jewels and her struggle to get back to Karla. Feel free to read as well.

Jewels, the bull mastiff cross was found running with a leash dragging running “like a shot” and “was not going to stop” according to Stacey Hubbard, who chased her down.

Hubbard was driving home from work when she saw Jewels get clipped by a car and continue running, the driver did not stop.

“She was running so fast and could hardly run properly, her back legs looked as if they were about to give out any minute,” said Hubbard who chased her with a broken ankle of her own.

After a long chase, eventually Hubbard was able to track her down when Jewel’s leash was caught on a car that was parked in a drive way.

With the help of the home owner, she was able to get the handle of her leash and give her a little food.

“She wilted into me and collapsed.”

Hubbard called Pawsitive Vetrinary Care where they were able to see the dried blood and road rash on her face and cut paws.

“I had no idea about the car accident, let alone how bad it really was, it wasn’t until the women at Pawsitive saw her and recognized her that we called the police. I thought I was going to be taking care of Jewels from now on.”

After a through assessment they called the Kelowna RCMP and SPCA where they approved that the owner, Karla could have the bull mastiff back under certain restrictions and guidelines, and to proper check ups to ensure she heals.

“I received a call from Karla and I could tell that Jewels was her baby. She was so grateful and so worried about her, those two have a guardian angel for sure. They are lucky to be alive.”

The three are now fast friends and believe they have been brought into each others’ lives for a reason.
