Raising Funds for Theo's Tuition
Donation protected
WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?
Empowerment.
HOW?
A Ghana orphan (Theo, 21), who with our help became a teacher already, and we've secured a spot in a Prague university for him to further his education. All "paperwork" for his stay is being processed with our help.
WHY?
Because we believe that empowerment of individuals is the way to go.
HOW MUCH?
$5,000. Which covers his airfare, visa, tuition for the first year, the first month of stay in the country (mostly "free" or covered otherwise). We have found a part-time job for Theo as well, so he would be better able to support himself during his studies stay.
Please, consider visiting our Facebook Page and sharing with like-minded friends.
Below is Jana's Essay/Letter, which provide a more wholesome story.
Hi Friends,
about a year ago, on Nas Daily's Facebook Group "Global", I came across a homeless orphan who lived in the streets of West African city of Accra, Ghana's capital. His name is Theo. His post has really touched me and once I've figured out how to get in contact with him, we started to communicate daily.
After months of my conversations with Theo and learning about him and his life, I have decided to wire him $300 in order to have his high school certificate released. See, Theo is 21 years old and while he finished high school some years ago, the school refused to release his certificate due to unpaid fees for his studies.
I have never sent such a large sum to anyone before, and while I became to trust Theo, knowing his dismal situation (homeless and hungry), I worried he will use the money to buy food instead of the certificate. But he didn't! He paid the school off, obtained his certificate and became a teacher! His life improved immediately. Which in turn also had an immediate positive impact on those around him.
Encouraged and impressed by his progress, I wanted to help more. Not just to Theo, but to his community too. I flew over to Ghana, to meet with Theo and to see what else and how can be done!?
For starters, I brought with me some little things to give away. Clothes, toys, food and school supplies such as football, scissors, pencils, school books...and a microscope :)
I got back from Ghana about a week ago. The experience was a bit shocking. Beautiful too of course. But I just can't stop wondering about things...why would a fancy private school have only 3 textbooks for a class of 25 kids? How come university educated people have never seen a microscope? Why do people start a fire with plastic bags? ...a different world, really!
I feel that empowering others through means of education is a particularly positive way to make the world a better place. Yes, I am a teacher myself. When I saw Theo teaching in his class, I was impressed and became convinced that he can make a difference!
Turned out I am not the only one maintaining this opinion. With the support of many people, we try to welcome Theo to travel over and study in Prague. To obtain higher education (University Degree) and eventually bring his knowledge back to Ghana and share it with his young pupils there!
And no, I am not saying that our education or schools are better. Just different.
I have found a local College, here in Prague which is accepting international students and offers a program right for Theo. While I am able to support him in terms of lodging and have already secured him a part-time job so he could support himself as much as possible during his studies, I am not able to cover his airfare, visa, and tuition. I need your help!
About Me:
I am Jana Farrington-Douglas. I am from Prague, Czech Republic, where I live, teach English and raise my two young kids.
Together with my high school friend, Gabby Caperon, a Czech Native, currently residing in California, we joined forces and created this GoFundMe campaign for Theo.
We would be very grateful if you could contribute to our Fundraiser for Theo's Tuition. Theo is a great young man with poise and a heart in the right place. He can make a difference for a lot of kids! He is a great teacher already.
We can share pictures of Theo's progress and his journey with you.
A happy face of a young man whose dreams will come true, thanks to your help!
THANK YOU.

Hola buenos días,
Hace un tiempo leí en el Nas. Daily. Group.
Jana & Gabby
