Help Mike fight Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, Everyone!
On behalf of Kim Arispe and Rhonda Abreu, we want to thank you for visiting our gofundme page for Michael Abreu. As the parents of Michael and Megan Abreu, we want to share their story with you.
Michael Abreu is a 27-year-old husband and father. His love and passion for music can be seen by the middle school students he serves every day. He believes that his life is measured by how much of it is given away, so he has continued to serve his students and his community even with his cancer diagnosis.
August 2017
Our story begins in August of 2017 when Mike was working through fighting off a cold with a strong cough that he thought he picked up from school. As the months went on, his cough continued with no signs of letting up. He went to the doctor one afternoon in November to determine what was going on. After hours and hours at the doctor's office, he was sent to the emergency room. After several scans, they sent him home with a diagnosis of 'unknown masses in his lungs'.
After two biopsies (one failed), Mike was officially diagnosed in November 2017 with Classical Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Our Journey Starts- November 2017
This experience has been quite a ride... We have gone from living a normal, every day, “did you pay the bills?” kind of life, to wondering what the next day is going to hold.
That all being said, we wholeheartedly believe that everything, even cancer, happens for a reason. It’s a sign that there is an imbalance in the body that needs to be taken care of. In order to do this, it requires a lifelong, lifestyle change. Since this all began in November of 2017, we have had our noses stuck in all sorts of books that bring us knowledge and awareness on how to best take care of Mike’s body.
Our Journey continues...
Michael has fought his fight with Hodgkin's for 6 months using alternative methods. He completely altered his lifestyle and started to be more mindful of habits and the food he was eating. His first PET scan in February showed some improvements, but as of his most recent PET scan in June of 2018, his cancer had become more aggressive. Because of the discouraging result of his PET scan, we have decided to go forward with conventional treatment.
Next Steps- July 2018
As of July 2018, Michael has begun his chemotherapy treatment. He will undergo 6 months of ABVD chemotherapy along with quarterly PET scans to determine progress. Because we are both teachers, our finances are greatly impacted by continuous medical expenses.
Any donation, even just $1, can make such a difference for us as we continue Mike's healing journey. If monetary donations are not available, please send prayers for our family. We believe in the healing power of God, and we know that he will give Mike the guidance and strength to push through this challenging stage of his life.
Thank you, and God Bless.
Megan, Michael, and Mila Abreu.
