Help Molly Beat Leukemia

Donation protected

One of the hardest things in life is recognizing its various parts, please take a moment to spare a thought and donation to our mother Molly Allen. This fund is currently being run by Molly’s two daughters.

At just 55 years old, Molly was diagnosed with Leukemia and immediately checked herself into the hospital to start Chemotherapy. This was a shock as she had previously battled Thyroid Cancer. This battle with leukemia will be a long and hard one, it is guaranteed to test the limits of our family and finances to the maximum.

Molly has lived a selfless life, and has made a huge impact on many of us. Whether it was spending endless hours helping her younger daughter Bianca with her learning disability in highschool to taking Bianca to her gymnastic practices six times a week. She was her daughter Monas' biggest supporter when she  decided to enlist in the U.S Navy.  She is the kind of mom who never said no to anyone that needed help. Molly has spent her life taking care of others, so now let’s take care of her!

She worked as Care giver for elderly senior citizens, tenderly caring for her patients for years. Although she loved taking care of elderly patients, recently Molly decided to go back to school to study Oncology Massage Therapy. She was inspired to help cancer patients.  She wanted to provide loving kindness in the form of full hand contact: palms, finger and fingertips. After 7 months of tireless work, and dedication Molly attained her Certification.

Only two months after starting her new career she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Due to the treatment and her location there is an immense strain on finances and family. Molly’s family are located in various other states and her two daughters are away at college. Every other weekend her daughters drive eight hours to visit her and support her in the hospital while continuing school.

Details of the diagnosis and treatment are below.

Molly was diagnosed with ALL (Adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL; also called acute lymphocytic leukemia) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.) End of January 2017

On two occasions ranging from November to January she had been to a different hospital to seek medical care for her cancer symptoms. The doctors missed the diagnosis and she was discharged from the hospital. After her left leg seized up from muscle pain she went to University of Michigan Hospital where they did a blood test. When the test came back the doctors were astonished of her white blood cell count. Molly was immediately admitted to the Cancer Center and started Chemo the next day. After one month, she was released with occasional chemo treatments starting February 18th for the next two years.

Molly will need a bone marrow transplant in the next two years or her health will deteriorate again. Currently the doctors have not found a match. Having no full siblings, the chances of finding a match within the family is low.

She hasn’t been able to work as planned in her new career field. Due to the nature of her disease she will not be able to work for the next 5-6 months. This disease has been financially challenging. On top of household expenses, insurance, and rent there are more expenses for treatments and medications that are not fully covered by the insurance. Molly is looking to relocate to stay around family in these next up coming months. She wants to move to Florida to be with her sister, nieces and elderly mother so she can be around family and have someone to take her to her continued chemo treatments.

We are optimistic that Molly will fight this cancer and find a bone marrow donor soon. We are all working to keep Molly  in good spirits during this time. We are asking for anyone who has seen the postings on social media and been touched to help donate what they can. If you can’t we understand and ask that you share this with as many people as possible because it would mean the world to us. Our mother is the most selfless person we know.

Money raised will go towards medications, and treatments not fully covered by insurance, a homehealth aide as chemo will weaken her in her day to day abilities, the cost for a health aide is 21 dollars an hour, for 8 eight hours a day at least, it is 3,360 and for six months 20,160 ! Also as Molly will not be able to work househould expenses, rent and insurance. Once again if you have been touched please find it in your heart to donate any amount helps.
