Help Nyx Get to FotP Zine Fest
Donation protected
I'm Jaime Nyx, and my life revolves around zines. While it feels a little weird saying that, zines are what my world is about. Zines have given me a voice and a purpose in a world that doesn't know how to put me to work thanks due to mental health issues as well as chronic illness.
I've devoted all my time to creating a space for both new and old zinemakers in the form of SeaGreenZines.com where I post about zines, review them, and join in with various zine activities. I also make videos about them on YouTube and podcast about them in The Zine Collector podcast.
It's this passion for zines that sees me asking you for help in this GoFundMe. My goal? To go to Melbourne's amazing and iconic Festival of the Photocopier 2019.
I live in Murray Bridge (about 655 kilometers/407 miles away from Melbourne) with my partner and carer Wanderer. We are on a limited budget but one that allows for my zine passion to live on. However, it doesn't allow for travel to an event like this.
This GoFundMe is to cover the costs involved in going to this event:
*Accommodation
*Car tune up
*Petrol
*Parking
Anything above goal will go toward:
*Food on the trip
*Supplies for making zines for the fest
(The cost of a car tune up and petrol equate the cost of the both of us flying. It makes more sense to drive and thus not have to deal with luggage weight costs on top of flight costs.)
Thanks to my various issues, I am unable to travel on my own to the Festival of the Photocopier. I need Wanderer with me both on the journey as well as at the event itself.
However, Wanderer also has mobility issues, which influence where and how we choose accommodation. While I don't yet quite know what I want to do (I'm starting this early as booking early will help lower costs), I will be making a zine or zine related project as a thank you.
Whether you share this, donate $1, or donate more, know that I am incredibly grateful to you. As I said, zines are my life, and I have been working very hard this year to work on my mental health (including an inpatient anxiety clinic stay earlier this year) so I can focus on my love of zines rather than my fear of the unknown. Know that I will always be doing everything in my power to give back and show the kindness that has been shown to me.
