Help our dad Mike Espey beat ALS
Donation protected
Our dad was diagnosed 7-10-2017 with ALS (Amyotophic Lateral Sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehring's Disease. It is a progressive neurodegerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The motor neurons (nerve cells that control muscle cells) are gradually lost. When they are lost, the muscles they control become weak and then nonfunctional. There is currently no cure for ALS. He was given 1-1 and 1/2 years to live.
ALthough he is on medication that will only slow down the process , there is stem cell and gene therapy treatments in Bejing, China at the Wu medical society. He is working to get himself in to the program for treatment. It is a two week long procedure and may need a couple rounds. He will also be looking into holistic medical options as well to battle the disease. At this time his symptoms are heading into the advanced stages of the disease with only the help of medication to slow the progress.
My father is a fighter; always has been and always will! He is what has held our family together and supported us in everything we have needed. From working 2-3 jobs and pulling 90-100 hours a week just to make sure we had food in our bellies and roof over our head. He has never walked away from a challenge. Instead he has embraced whatever has been thrown at him. My mother has been disabled for the last 16 years and unable to work. My father has taken care of her and now he is the one that needs to be helped. ALS has met his match!! Now he is having to quit his job to start the fight of his life.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to read about my dad. Anything you can give to help is more then we have now. Lets give him the best opportunity he can have! Lots of Love!!
