Help Philip Overcome Dyslexia

Donation protected

Philip is a very smart 5th grader who struggles with Dyslexia.  We have suspected that Philip has had dyslexia for a while now and have worked many hours one on one to help him progress in his reading and spelling skills.  Last summer he underwent a formal evaluation through Lexercise  and was diagnosed with developmental dyslexia.  He recently had the opportunity to try teletharapy through Lexercise and Philip has improved moving from Level 1 to Level 8 in 12 weeks.  Unfortunately, there are about 35 levels of teletharapy instruction total.  To continue with Lexercise teletharapy, Philip will meet weekly with a trained Lexercise clinician (for 45minutes), work on daily exercises through Lexercise computer games, and complete daily Lexercise assignments at home.  Cost of this therapy costs $395/4 weeks.  We are not sure how much therapy Philip will need but I estimate that it could take him about a year to achieve the skill level of an average boy in his grade.

We have consulted with our local public school who told us that they only treat kids who attend there and are in the lowest 10%.  Here is a link with details about the challenges that public schools face in treating dyslexia.  http://www.lexercise.com/blog/public-schools-struggle-to-help-kids-with-dyslexia

Dyslexia provides gifts and talents that can help one achieve great things in life: Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Leonardo daVinci, Benjamin Franklin and Walt Disney  were all dyslexic.  Philip loves to explore and run around outside bare foot which is why he has gained the nick-name of Huckleberry Phil from the other parents in our neighborhood.  In 2013, Philip found a mastodon tooth at the bottom of a creek near our house,  He stepped on it with his bare foot and his sense of curiosity peaked which caused him to reach down and pull it out of the mud.  Soon after we realized what it was and reported Phil's fantastic find to our local news paper .  Then Philip's story spread all over the world:  on CNNYoutube , Mexico and Indonesia !  Philip really enjoyed being famous for a few weeks.  Since, he has been invited to show and tell about his mastodon tooth at the 2014 Michigan Rock and Gem show.

Dyslexia also provides various challenges.  Although Philip has been found to have a higher than average verbal IQ, he struggles daily with reading and spelling.  Sometimes his friends laugh at him and challenge him to read words that they know he cannot read without help.  Philip has to carefully sound out words that kids his age and younger can read easily.  He feels down about himself and wonders why this is so hard for him.  We keep encouraging him to work hard and keep trying.   We believe that Lexercise will give him the language therapy needed to help Philip acheive a higher reading ability; something we couldn't do on our own.

If you are able to give just $5 to help us cover the costs of our son's Dyslexia Therapy with Lexercise, we would really appreciate it.  Philip would be blessed too!
