Help Sadik Support Wikipedia in Ghana

Help Sadik travel from Ghana to present his work on education in Stockholm!

Sadik Shahadu, an educator from Accra, Ghana, has been invited to participate in the CivilServant Research Summit on 19 August 2019 and needs help to fund his travel to Stockholm, Sweden for the event. Practitioners from around the world like Sadik will gather at the Summit to discuss how Wikipedia projects can test their ideas to help their communities thrive. Global Voices has awarded Sadik a scholarship to cover his lodging in Stockholm, but he will be unable to attend without our help with travel expenses.

If we can raise $1,400, Sadik will be able to go to the Summit in Stockholm!

Sadik is an inspiring, energetic leader who works to build open educational practices in Ghana. Sadik co-founded and serves as the Director of Communication and Partnerships for the Global Open Initiative (GOI), a young nonprofit organization working internationally to promote data accessibility and open educational resources. Sadik is closely involved in GOI projects to support education in Ghana, including:
• A project to build and distribute “Internet-in-a-box” devices that enable people in Ghana to use rich online resources like Wikipedia even when their access to the Internet and electricity is missing or limited.
• An OER Network to provide no-cost websites for teachers in Ghana to create and share open educational resources designed specifically for local teaching and learning needs.

I’ve launched this campaign and I’m personally supporting Sadik because I know how important it is for people from all quarters to participate in gatherings like the Summit. Many people like Sadik who lead social change in countries like Ghana do not have the resources to travel to international events where they can bring their highly valuable work to wider attention and connect with peers in person.

I met Sadik and have collaborated with him in two communities: educators working to open educational practices with Creative Commons, and Virtually Connecting, an all-volunteer organization that makes it possible for people all over the world to have virtual "hallway conversations" with attendees at major conferences.

Let’s help Sadik make it to the Summit in Stockholm! No contribution is too small!

Whether you can contribute or not, please share this campaign to send Sadik to Stockholm on your social networks!
