Save & ReHome Horses from Slaughter
Donation protected
UPDATE: We have an opportunity to reduce THREE Horses and are going to move ahead WITHOUT THE FUNDS, hoping to make them up! PLEASE HELP. http://bcc.marioncountyfl.org/petharbor/petharbor.css&friends=0&samaritans=1&nosuccess=1&rows=10&imght=120&imgres=thumb&tWidth=200&view=sysadm.v_MRON&nobreedreq=1&nomax=1&nocustom=1&fontface=arial&fontsize=10&zip=34470&miles=200&shelterlist=%27MRON%27&atype=&where=type_OO&NewOrderBy=Breed&PAGE=1"> Here is the link to several horses and other animals still needed help!
I am a 10th-grade student working on an important Personal Project, both for myself and for a school project. I feel strongly about about animal rescue and rehabilitation and rehoming. My family has always rescued horses and dogs, and now I have chosen to coordinate the entire rescue and rehoming process of one horse that would otherwise be slaughtered. I have been researching for weeks and am working on selecting a horse from one of several auctions where the so many wonderful horses are sold to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. The horse has to be sound and able to be ridden, so I can properly rehabilitate it and find it a new owner when it is ready.
I am committed to this huge project. Many animals are worthy of a good life, and just need an opportunity with good people to help them. I would like to adopt a certain horse from Kaufmann Kill Pen, as they are not too far away and are working hard to save horses every single day.
UPDATE 01/19: My parents were generous enough to let me bring home and rescue "Monty" to give him a proper shelter temporarily. He is about 10 years old and is an unregistered Morgan Horse. I now need help with the finances of the horse; getting it vet checked, and being able to feed it and care for it while it stays with us. For the time being, I still have to pay for his expenses and manage all aspects of his care and rehabilitation. I have been saving my personal money, working on my side photograph business (taking horse show pictures, animal and nature, and wedding engagement photos) to help raise money also. I have my business plan ready to go, and just need help fundraising.
The amount we are working for should pay for the vet visits, farrier, feed/hay and monthly expenses for 6 months. I believe I can help him as much as I can at my parents property until I can re-home him permanently in a healthy and happy environment.
UPDATE: 07/19: Thanks to all of our generous donations and sponsors, Monty is ready to find his forever home! He is finally healthy, happy, and ready to be trained under the saddle! He learned to stay still for the vet, farrier, groomer and goes in cross ties. He is a now very healthy weight , he has stable muscles and bones, his coat is as beautiful as its ever been and he is just full of LIFE and PERSONALITY.
I am now looking for donations to go to further our mission and adopt more rescue horses from the Marion County Animal Services that are still homeless from hurricane Micheal. There are 3 left out of the 18 and we have a few spaces at the barn, but again we need funds!
Any donation would be greatly appreciated, as I am ready to rehabilitate and re-adopt more horses in danger and turn them into someone's future best friend.
Thank you for considering this project,
Rachael
