Help support Gomez Family

As most know my Father had a heart attack the day we got back from our cruise in Florida , a day before we were suppose to fly home to New York. Three of his arteries were 100% blocked and the other was 75% blocked and the doctors were shocked he was even alive at this point. He was told that if he left the hospital without open heart surgery that he would die. My father ended up having a quadruple bypass and did great in surgery but not too long after , complication after complication began. He was awake, in pain for a day and a half and could not handle it and was put in an induced coma and medication to paralyze his body. We were told that he had an infection in his lungs and he was started on an antibiotic but that antibiotic did nothing for him and he was placed on ECMO which is an artificial lung. We were told that there should be improvement within 4-5 days. Day 4 on the machine, my sister and myself flew to Florida to see our father. That night was a blur as the doctor brought us into a conference room to tell us that he had not been improving at all and that it would be a miracle if there was any improvement at this point and that Saturday they would take him off the ECMO and let him go peacefully.  We were devastated. We cried at his bedside and begged him to fight even though we could tell he was tired. The next morning, he made extreme progress. His lungs started working a little bit. His vital signs were all stable and everything looked like it was going in the right direction. After a day, he was still stable but not improving anymore than he already did. After 2 and a half weeks of being sedated they took him off and expected him to wake up and take him off of his breathing machine, but that didn’t go as planned. While we were waiting for him to wake up still, his lungs started improving tremendously. He was taken off the ECMO machine on 10/22 and that was the best news we had in a long time but then we were told that he might have fallen into a coma on his own bcause he had stopped moving around the little bit that he was and stopped opening his eyes. After all the good news for a few days, the doctor came back in and said that they were taking him down to do a CT scan of his head to see if he had any brain activity and if he didn’t have any, we would have to have another talk on what his family wanted to do. Another devastating hour we had to wait for results but in the end, the results were that he had no brain damage not even any from his accident that he had!! The relief we felt was amazing. His heart was healing, his lungs were healing, he had no brain damage. He still has a lot of work to do but he’s a fighter and it’s amazing to watch. His first words to us before his open heart surgery was “please no go fund me” but that was before we knew all of this would happen. His family has been out of work, in another state for a month now. The nurses and doctors have told us that he still has a long recovery and that he is still very sick. He is currently on dialysis and still has not woken up yet to get his breathing machine taken out. We don’t know how long we will be down here but any and everything is appreciated. Keep on fighting, Dad, we aren’t giving up on you, ever.
