Eugene “Tim” Bassett – An Original New Jersey Net
***Sadly, Tim passed away on December 9th. He leaves behind medical expenses and unpaid property taxes. Thank you for kind words during this difficult time and for your continued support. ***
In 2016, Tim was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (cancer) of the hip and pelvis. This form of osteosarcoma occurs mostly in children and young adults. It is an extremely rare occurrence after the age of sixty years old.
Since Tim’s original diagnosis in 2016, his medical treatment has included radiation, chemotherapy and surgery to preserve his leg. In spite of the treatments he received, the cancer has returned each year of the past three years. Days are long, pain and discomfort are a constant, and mobility is a struggle. He has been unable to work since 2016. Medical bills, transportation costs, and daily living expenses have continued to accumulate. The weight of the debt is unbearable. .
Although Tim played NBA basketball, 1973-1982, with the San Diego Conquistadors, New York/New Jersey Nets, and the San Antonio Spurs, it was not during a time when salaries were large and benefits remained for a lifetime after retirement. He has no pension and must pay for his own medical expenses.
Our goal may be lofty, but no greater than the expenses. Any and all help is truly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for your kindness and generosity.
