Help to keep family from eviction

Donation protected
Hello everyone.

My name is Josh, and currently I’m living with family, including my mom and more recently my sister and her new baby who moved back home. After taking a couple of pretty huge hits in January, we are left in a very bad way as February comes to an end. We are facing eviction in court on 2/28, with a set out date shortly after that if we cannot come up with the rest of the rent (and now court filing fees) that we owe. We do have just over half of it currently, thankfully.

(My sister and my new niece Shelby... and a cat.)

We got into this situation after a horrible January. Our car died early on in January when the extreme cold snap hit, and because of it my mom and my sister both lost their jobs. Thankfully after the extreme cold ended, and we got a new cam shaft sensor for the car (plus a healthy jump start), our car started working again. My mom got a new job, but sadly it was one that ended up screwing her out of pay, and she had to leave that one. She has gotten a more solid new job since than that just recently started. Meanwhile my sister has been focusing on taking care of her new baby while we figure out what is going on before she looks for another job.

In the meantime, what money I can bring in and whatever else that comes in has been left to take care of the utilities and food. We couldn’t get any more extensions from the utilities company here, and my current cash has been exhausted keeping the lights and water on after paying for two months at once.

Our property manager IS working with us to a point, and as long as we can come up with the total of the money before the set out we can stay. What we currently owe is a good portion of January rent and the total of February, plus late fees and court filing costs due to the eviction.

Sadly, we have gotten as much help from family as they can currently extend, and I’ve already sold off some of the extra things I have like my DSLR camera to help through these times.

The bit of good news is we are currently just over half that amount with tax return money and the little bit of pay that will come before the deadline. We would very much like to avoid the eviction all together, but if it happens, we will potentially have at least one round more round of paychecks from new jobs to help that amount too before the set out. Maybe.

I am putting this up at the same time as I am reaching out to charities and churches for help too. Salvation Army doesn’t take new cases here until the beginning of the month, but they could be a help at least before we get set out in March. I am currently trying to reach out to other charities to see if we can receive help there too.

We just don’t know how long after court the set out date would be, since that is all up to the Sherriff’s office at that point.

Right now, I have set the goal here so that after the payment processing fees, 100% would go to covering rent expenses owed to avoid eviction.

If we happened to be blessed to go above that goal, or if we have received funds from GoFundMe and we are able to get help from a charity, then any funds above that would be used towards March rent so we can get as ahead of the curve as we can while starting new jobs and helping take care of my 5 month old niece.

Any help is immensely appreciated. We were just starting to get ahead of things here when January came and smacked us around, and as long as we can recover from this emergency we will be fine. Tight but fine.

A share is greatly appreciated, but your time was worth a lot already. Thanks for reading.
