Help Us Celebrate 5 Years of Rescue With a Gift!
Has it been another year already?
Every spring, we hold a general fundraiser to give people in the community and across the Web a chance to contribute. Tazewell Animal Rescue Coalition has been saving the lives of animals in Southwest Virginia since 2013. We’ve sent hundreds of dogs and cats to new lives out of state in an effort to relieve the imbalance of supply and demand in Central Appalachia.
This year, our biggest needs are transport-related. We need to make at least two trips to New England—a very reputable rescue there has agreed to help us with some of our more difficult-to-place adoptables, particularly some large breed dogs with chronic fear issues who’ve been here for a long time. Because they are easily terrified, they’re not good candidates for commercial transport. Each trip will cost us about $1,500, with one leaving mid-March and the other mid-April. If you are familiar with how things work in rescue, you'll know what a precious opportunity this is for these dogs. Difficult dogs do not get a chance at forever homes very often. I hope we are able to raise enough funds to make sure we can give them this gift.
We’ve also had a veterinary emergency that set us back a few pennies. Milo, our resident protector, was injured on the job while defending the property from predators. A savage bite to his face avulsed a large section of skin from his skull. This required emergency veterinary care and a brief hospital stay. He’s recovering, but the vet bill is $544 and climbing.
Around the same time, record low temperatures in our area ensured that the water lines in our basement froze solid for three days. When they thawed, the old metal pipes literally came apart at each joint. We’re having to replumb rather than repair. So far materials have been relatively inexpensive, but with Milo’s vet bill, even a few hundred dollars were hard to come by. In order to finish the job properly and ensure that the entire facility is properly plumbed with modern fixtures, we need between $800 and $1,000.
You can read more about the plumbing situation and watch videos about the project HERE.
We hope that you will give serious consideration to supporting our fundraiser. TARC has a proven track record of success, having placed hundreds of dogs and cats in forever homes with the help of excellent rescue partners in New England. We’re a state-reporting agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a member of the Best Friends NMHP network, and work in cooperation with local law enforcement and animal control. We’d love to start 2019 off with ample funding in the coffers, and success with this fundraiser would go a long way toward making that happen!
