Our 16 year old son, Viktor Heintz, has been battling brain tumors since he was 7 years old. He has undergone several surgeries with good years in between.
This past year, Viktor underwent 6 months of chemo and despite the treatments, his condition has worsened precipitously since early October. Our options have unfortunately run out. We are heartbroken.
Viktor has been in hospice care for 3 weeks. He sleeps almost 24 hrs now. Though he can still hear us and understands everything, he has lost mobility, sight, speech, and can no longer swallow. This has necessitated us in missing work to be with him. We are striving to make him as comfortable as possible and surrounding him with friends and family.
Viktor loved swimming, he was always the first one in the pool. He enjoyed playing basketball with his buddies. He sang in the school choir and his favorite classes were auto tech and history. He listened to Reggae music and liked to watch Crime Dramas. He took pride in having a job at McDonald's and insisted on working despite being on chemo and his failing health.
It is so hard to say good-bye.
