Help feed our hungry pups

We need your help to provide a bigger, safer, warmer home for our injured and orphaned bats!

It’s the middle of winter here in Melbourne which means that snow will soon fall up here on the mountain. . The cold weather means a short break in bat casualties as our flying foxes seek nicer  weather up north, but we don’t have time to rest. We have a tiny window of opportunity to hit GO on our plans to build a bigger, safer and stronger ‘nursery’ or creche aviary, to be ready for orphans who will  need us come springtime.

The growing demand for our injured and orphaned flying fox intake, along with the threat of a sweltering Summer season, has meant that our current flight facility is just not going to cut it. We need the absolute best for these threatened natives, and we need your help to build it for them!

The crèche- or nursery aviary - is where our hand reared bats learn to be wild and gain the critical skills they need to survive.



This is our vision. A 10m x 4m castle that can’t be package bought. Every element of this concept is designed to  provide the very best short and medium term care. It will see hundreds of bats through it’s door in the future and will withstand the test of rain, hail and hurricane!

 

This is where bats will free - fly and learn to form social groups. Figure out how to make friends and learn from older and wiser bats.  Where curious pups will stretch their wings and take their first flight ( and probably crash land!)

Most importantly, this will be home for so many who'll come to us scared, lonely and injured, but in this aviary will find comfort, friendship and protection- the perfect elements for a speedy recovery.


He doesn’t know it yet, but he will need these little wings to carry him up to 60kms a night! Providing a bigger, better flight facility is the only best way we can give him a chance at a wild life.
