Eddie Kidd was your average happy and always cheeky 2year old toddler until a fall of the family couch at his parents Sunshine Coast home on the 18th of August 2016. No one could ever imagine a fall off the couch could ever be so bad.
He began screaming and crying in pain strsaight away and both of his eyes instantly went black and a large lump formed on his head. His mother rushed him straight to Nambour General Hospital where doctors an emergency CT scan revealed bleeding to the brain and a fracture to his skull . The doctors then advised that he needed an operation straight away and that he would be air lifted. A helicopter and a child retreval team of doctors had already been sent from Lady Cilento Brisbane
With so much equipment and team onboard he rode alone all the way to brisbane where instantly upon arrival he was rushed in for an operation. He continued to bleed after the operation and after an investigation by the doctors it was discovered that Eddie Kidd had Haemophilia (impairs the body's ability to make blood clots, a process needed to stop bleeding) which was preventing him from healing. Within in a few days of his initial operation he began showing signs of infection, he had contracted Golden Staph, a horrible infection. He then in for his second operation where the part of his skull bone was removed, cleaned of infection and replaced.
2 weeks passed by and he was finally was able to come home but unfortunatly less than a week after he came home he started showing signs of an infection again. He was taken back to Lady Cilento where he was put in for his 3rd operation and the infected part of his skull was removed permanatly. During the couse of all this so far he has had 3 operations on his skull, 2 blood transfusions, put under more then 7 times and had to recieve 40+ stitches accross his entire head 3 times over. Eddie will now need full time care and to have a titanium plate in his skull to replace the removed bone but the doctors cannot do so until he has been infection free for 6 months or longer. He has been fitted with a helmet to protect his missing skull and can no longer play and enjoy himself, due to his Haemophilia and he will not be able to participate in any sports or activities as the slightest bump or fall could result in internal bleeding in his joints.
We are asking for any financial help that anyone can spare as the strain upon his parents with Eddie having 3 siblings has begun to weigh extremley heavy. Funds will go towards all Eddie's care including operations to repair his skull both internal and cosmetic (as he grows he will also need multiple adjustment operations), travel to and from doctors and hospital appointments and operations, medications and therapeutic devices, everything needed in the future and everything inbetween. We would be extremly greatful for any donations we recieve and will keep everyone updated with Eddie's progress.
