Help Elderly Dog Abandoned in a Box
Donation protected
On the evening of April 18th, we found a box in front of our vet’s clinic. It was a tall Whataburger cardboard box. Inside, we found a small dog. She couldn't have escaped even if she had tried to, because the box was way too tall compared to her size.
She appeared to be hyperventilating, but she wasn't moving. When I lifted her, she didn’t react. She was pretty much paralyzed with fear.
We took her home and noticed her belly was very big and she had a hard time walking. She didn't seem to be pregnant. She was able to drink water but after a little while, she was still hyperventilating.
Thanks to Animal Justice League, we were able to rush her to the emergency room at Vergi 24/7.
She's very likely a senior (12 to 14 years old) and was in respiratory distress. She was put on oxygen and given painkillers after an X-ray was performed. She had to stay at the ER.
This morning the vet called, and unfortunately, xrays didn’t reveal much. She has an enlarged liver but the bigger concern is heart and lungs. Last night she was completely dependent on oxygen, and is immobile. They started methadone and trazadone to get her comfortable and she did ok through the night. Very likely we’re dealing with pulmonary or spinal/neuro issues, but are at a wait and hold period right now. They’ll run a few more blood tests to try to determine what’s going on. She is being kept comfortable between pain and anxiety meds, we hope rest will do her little body some good.
Animal Justice League has always been very helpful with pets needing immediate help. However, vets are expensive, and this great rescue needs you to be able to survive and help more animals.
Please keep this sweet little old lady in your thoughts today and donate to this gofundme or directly to Animal Justice League through their website: www.animaljusticeleague.org/donate
Thank you.
