Eric's medical crisis

Donation protected
To  friends and supporters of Eric Martin,

I am Eric's sister-in-law and I wanted to update everyone on his status.

Please feel free to share this campaign anywhere possible.  The more it's shared, the more potential to help Eric.

Many of you know the details of his current medical issues.  We would like to start by thanking everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and messages of encouragement.

As a healthy person with nothing more than an occasional cold, the past months have been a trial both mentally and physically.  The term “perfect storm” comes to  mind when I think about all that has occurred.  This journey for Eric has definitely been unpredictable and not only life threatening, but life altering.

He came to Phoenix three months ago to play golf and was admitted that afternoon to the hospital for a blood transfusion.  He had been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about eight months prior and had become unable to maintain relief with medication.  His hemoglobin was critically low.  From that point, he has now been in the hospital three different times for a total of forty-five days.  He has had eight blood transfusions, iron infusions, very strong steroids and medications which have caused him to have muscle atrophy.  This most recent admission was because he was having trouble breathing and started fainting. It was determined that he had multiple blood clots in his lungs.  His oxygen levels were critical and he was moved to ICU.  The clots are life threatening.  The anticoagulant that he must have to control the clots works against the treatment that he needs for the bleeding from the ulcerative colitis.  As the bleeding becomes worse, his platelet count and his hemoglobin numbers have dropped.  He now also has a severe infection in his mouth that results in him not being able to eat or talk.  The doctors are still unsure what it is from and not sure how to treat it.  Not being able to eat has contributed to more weight loss and he may need a feeding tube until this is resolved.  At the current time, he is extremely weak and unable to stand or walk.  Through all of these trials, he remains upbeat  and on a good day, as has always been typical of Eric, is singing to the nurses and anyone else who will listen!

Anyone who knows Eric knows that he puts 100 percent into everything he does.  He loves his family, his friends, and his work!  He offers support to everyone he comes in contact with, and it is evident to us how his friends feel about him.  He has struggled to get back up, struggled to breathe,  struggled to keep his spirits up.  He is giving this his ALL.

Many people have asked how they can help.  His future is unclear right now.  He can't work now and we are unsure what will happen in the coming months.  His insurance company is a Nevada company and they have been fighting the hospital , not wanting him to continue to receive treatment here in Arizona, even though there is no way he can leave here now.  He faces a rehabilitation facility and possibly home health care when he is released from the hospital.  All of this is overwhelming and we have so few answers right now.

The goal of this Go Fund Me is to help ease his mind and some of the financial burden that he is facing.  Any funds collected will go towards paying medical bills and his day to day bills, while allowing him to focus more on getting well with less worry.

We thank you all for your continued thoughts, prayers and support.  He has a long way to go but we are confident that he will regain his strength and get back to the people he loves and eventually be able to get back on stage!  You all know that he is a force to be reckoned with and one of the most determined people, whatever the situation.  He will beat this!

With love and thanks,
