Helping A Friend in Need with a Christmas Miracle

Please help this family of 4 who were displaced from their home during the storm over Thanksgiving weekend and homeowners insurance is denying their claim.  They have a disabled family member which makes temporary housing very limited.


Over Thanksgiving weekend the rear wall of our basement collapsed.  My wife has MS and almost no mobility so when this happened the ambulance, fire, and police departments helped to get her out of the house and told us to get what we could carry out of the house because it was no longer safe for us to occupy.  All of the utilities to the house had to be shut off making the house completely uninhabitable.  After a week-and-a-half of waiting, the insurance company completely denied our claim stating that our policy did not cover this type of accident.  It is now our sole responsibility to deal with the remediation of the property which will require engineers and architects before any work can be done, replacement of personal property (contents of the basement), loss and cleanup of all the food we had in the refrigerators and freezers, and continuing to pay the mortgage on a home we cannot live in while paying for an accessible hotel room that can accommodate my wife’s needs.
