SHOW THE LOVE
The Story.
Catherine is one of the best people you will ever meet. So of course she got cancer.
She is a mother, a grandmother, an artist, a poet, and a healer of broken hearts. Since 1992, she has been giving poetry and spoken word workshops, using a method she developed, that transforms and heals those who have experienced trauma. She spent three years doing weekly poetry workshops for Columbine students, after the 1999 shooting. She has spent decades bringing workshops into juvenile detention and residential treatment centers. For the past 15 years she has run Art From Ashes, a non-profit that empowers youth through creative writing.
In September of 2017, Catherine was diagnosed with breast cancer. An invasive carcinoma, which was intially thought to be stage 2, but is now stage 3 and HER2 positive. She has been undergoing chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, infusions and other medical procedures. Catherine’s insurance out-of-pocket was $6500 in 2017, $7150 in 2018 and $7150 in 2019, which she is close to already. She also had $1200 in dental expenses which needed to be done prior to chemo. Since Catherine has spent the past 15 years running the non-profit, she cannot afford all these unexpected costs, and now she can’t afford to handle usual home issues. And by the way...she is still working full time and overtime in addition to all her medical appointments.
Catherine has dedicated so many years of her life helping others, especially
teens in need. It’s time for others to help her.
How it works:
Please msg me pictures of items you wish to donate to the auction with the
amount you feel would be a good starting bid ($20 or more). For example: artists’ and crafters’ creations, lessons and classes for yoga/music, etc...tutoring, services such as massage, web design, and of course items you no longer use that have some value. Please write a
brief description of the item. Once we have an album together with the donated items, the bidding will begin. Donators and winners will arrange
delivery/pickup of item. Payments will be made to a Go Fund Me account (using credit card or Paypal).
Catherine can also use help with the following! If anyone can help, please
message me:
Need water filter
Radiant heat is broken
Replace freezer seal
Replace kitchen countertop (current is old and moldy)
Install mini-dishwasher (current is broken and the plumbing is wrong)
Always, always help with housecleaning
Many thanks!
