Helping Hands for Heidi
Donation protected
Heidi, a much loved Kindergarten teacher, suffered a tragic brain injury in February 2017, putting her in a coma for months. More than 10 months later, she is finally coming home. But Heidi will need a huge amount of help as she continues her recovery.
Heidi has extremely limited mobility and functionality as a result of her brain injury. At present she is unable to care for herself in any way and needs total assistance with even the simplest of daily tasks. Heidi needs 24 hour supervision. Her insurance does not cover this. Heidi also needs physical, occupational and speech therapy so she can continue to improve. She needs transportation to and from appointments. She is on a dozen different medications and a feeding tube. She needs medical equipment and supplies. All of these things cost a lot of money.
Heidi's family has already incurred tens of thousands of dollars in medical expenses and this number is expected to drastically increase now that Heidi will be at home with very little support from insurance. Even in a best-case scenario, Heidis recovery is going to take years, and she will likely need some type of care or assistance for the rest of her life. Meanwhile, the costs will continue to accumulate.
Heidi's quality of care, and ultimately her quality of life and chances for recovery, depend in large part on how much we can fundraise. Heidi's family will continue to do everything in their power to help her, but they do not have the resources to pay for everything that Heidi needs. $40,000 is our initial goal, but in the long term, Heidi will probably need a lot more than that. If this fundraiser is successful, we will increase our goal so we can do even more for Heidi.
Your contribution will go toward:
-Hiring caretakers to assist Heidi in the home
-Paying for transportation to doctor's appointments
-Bringing therapists to work with Heidi at home
- Paying for ocassional private duty nursing care when needed
- Paying for medicine, supplies and medical equipment, including a hospital bed, a Hoyer lift, and a custom-made wheelchair
- Paying for hospital and rehab bills that have already been incurred
- Keeping up with Heidi's pre-existing financial obligations, debts, taxes, bills and expenses while she is unable to work and earn money
Everyone who knows Heidi knows what a wonderful, generous and caring person she is. All her life she has put others before herself. Now it's time for us to return the favor. Please donate and make a difference in the life of someone who has made a difference in the lives of so many others. Thank you so much for your support! It is truly appreciated.
