OLDEST HORSE RESCUE IN USA - HELP!

Tax deductible
To Whom It May Concern;

This is an open letter to anyone willing to listen. Over the weekend, I visited my dear friends at Little Brook Farm in Old Chatham, NY - Summer Brennan in particular. I drove around to four different locations - right after a blizzard hit - with her to feed and water numerous horses. I was in complete shock that she had to do this twice daily, every day of the week - on top of taking care of Little Brook Farm’s homebase location.

Little Brook Farm cares for over 80 horses. Most of them were rescued from slaughter, abuse and/or neglect cases. They are the oldest horse rescue in the United States of America. For the oldest and most knowledgeable horse rescue to be getting the least amount of help is just heartbreaking to me. Their horses are in perfect shape. They are loved and cared for so passionately by everyone involved in the rescue. After going over all of the things they need to better their facility in my head while walking the property and then later watching Summer fall asleep sitting up while trying to hang out with all of us who were visiting, I decided I had to do something. I had to do something for these amazing human beings and beautiful horses.

Little Brook Farm needs new fencing. Their fencing is in tact but they spend a lot of time fixing it every other day and it is wasted energy - since new fencing could potentially just go up if we can raise some money for them! They need lights installed in the arena as well as around the homebase farm. This will make so many tasks easier. So many! I watched Summer jump the battery of their manure dump trailer just to get it to work. She does this every day! They need a smaller barn built at the top of their hill so they don’t have to worry about bringing the handful of horses who live up there down to the main barn anytime the weather gets bad. Everyone at Little Brook Farm needs a break. They give everything to these rescued horses.

I could be creating a campaign for the animals under my care but I am choosing to create this one - for Little Brook Farm. They would never ask for help themselves. I run a 501c3 nonprofit farm animal rescue myself, so I know how difficult it can get when expenses start to pile up and you are still forced to face the daily physical care and maintenance, etc. Rescue never sleeps. It never rests. So if you are involved in it, you don’t get a break either.

Let’s make 2018 the best possible year imaginable for Little Brook Farm and all of their programs based around saving horses in need.

Imagine if everyone donated just $1. It takes a village. Let’s do this!

Sincerely,
Caitlin Cimini

Statement from Little Brook Farm directly:

Little Brook Farm, established in 1977, is one of the oldest horse rescue/sanctuaries in the US. We have rescued hundreds of horses over the years and currently oversee the life long care of 100 horses. They are never bred or sold, and we maintain a strict “must return if…” policy when adopted.

*We receive no government funding and have no paid employees.

Little Brook Farm is home to B.I.T.S. (Balanced Innovative Teaching Strategies, Inc.), a non-profit 501c3 through the NYS Department of Education. B.I.T.S. has been providing multi-faceted educational, vocational and therapeutic programs utilizing the rehabilitated animals of Little Brook Farm since 1986. We provide a wide range of safety-conscious programs at our facility, as well as other locations, to over 80 schools, agencies and organizations. Our students’ success is achieved largely through the relationship with the horse: he is non-judgmental, provides immediate feedback and, as a subject, offers unlimited possibilities to grow mentally, physically and emotionally.
