Help me help the most helpless!

Hi!
My name is Alex and I have two passions in life: helping children in need and hiking. So I thought, why not combine the two and do a challenging and extraordinary hike in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, the Himalayas, and raise very much needed money and awareness for the incredible initiative #1MillionChildren (https://www.millionchildren.org/). This highly innovative and needed initiative, that I am the Managing Director of,  is focusing the entirety of its efforts and resources on getting refugee children back into learning, so that they can thrive and develop. But their resources are limited. This is a tremendously important cause, dealing with THE CRISIS challenge of our time and I want them to succeed. In order to achieve that,

I need your help…

The Background Story

Did you know that there are currently over 25 million children out of school due to conflict and war? That is 3x the population of London and New York and 7x the population of Berlin.

When I first read that, I was shocked to my very core. I imagined a busy morning on the London tube but instead of businessmen and women I was standing in a packed cart of displaced children, who did not know how to read or write and who looked lonely, desperate and sad. That image scared me and I decided that I would do everything in my power to contribute to reducing the amount of uneducated children on this planet we all call home.
In order to help these children, we all need to contribute. Only if we WORK TOGETHER can we really make a difference.

The Mission of #1MillionChildren

The mission is quite simple, yet effective: Invest in local community-based education solutions to reach the world’s most vulnerable children. Then, find a technology tool to scale the programmes to reach more children.

The #1MillionChildren Initiative seeks to provide education to at least one million children affected by war through a COALITION of local NGO partners. By creating a bridge collective of established and well-respected local NGOs in countries that have many Syrian refugees, such as Greece, Jordan and Turkey, the NGOs can exchange best practices with each other, learn from each other’s mistakes and benefit from each other’s successes. In this way, both time and money can be saved and can go towards reaching even more marginalised children QUICKLY. Time is of the utmost essence, as the number grows daily.

With the aim of catalysing impact at scale, #1MillionChildren will use technology to ensure proven successes are shared with other local NGOs across the region. They in turn leverage deep community resources to test and explore new ways of working – continuing to fuel innovation.

This in turn allows these wonderful children to flourish, as they receive the education, love and affection they so desperately deserve.

The Focus of the NGOs

All NGOs that partner with #1MillionChildren implement pioneering solutions to critical and long-standing problems around education, integration, social cohesion, psychosocial, mental, physical and emotional development of refugee children, creating dynamic social change and sustainable community development.

They run regular school and after-school programmes, providing both children and parents with emotional and psychosocial support as well as physical health through activities such as singing, sports and communal cooking sessions. By bringing together the host community and the refugees and by doing activities together, prejudices are eliminated and the children learn to RESPECT themselves and each other.

The three incredible NGOs that have joined the fantastic mission of #1MillionChildren this year are:

Middle East Children's Institute Jordan
METAdrasi Greece
Maya Vakfi Turkey

These NGOs are cutting-edge and without the incredible work they are doing on the ground, the #1MillionChildren Initiative would not exist. Combined, these three  nimble NGOs they have impacted and helped around 37.500 children. That deserves to be celebrated!

I absolutely LOVE this holistic approach to education as a whole and the values that these three NGOs and the Initiative are living.

Why crowdfund?

Since I believe in the POWER OF US and I am a firm believer that everybody can contribute something, even if it is just a little bit, this crowdfunding campaign will give you the opportunity to help me help the children on this Earth who are in dire need of our helping hands.

Through collective contribution, we can TOGETHER feel great that we have aided a worthwhile and extremely important cause and I cannot wait to present the #1MillionChildren with a hopefully fat cheque to help them expand this initiative and bring us all a bit closer to the goal of reaching at least one million children.

Your Impact

Any contribution you make will go straight into the project. I am aiming high, because I consider this to be THE CRISIS of our time. We need to raise a significant amount to help as many children as possible.
