We are raising money for a member of our community, Shankea Stewart, who is currently facing deportation and desperately needs to make a fresh application to the Home Office for indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
Shankea was 12 when she came to the UK in 2002, as a young child, dependent on her parents. It was when she applied to University she discovered, through no fault of her own, that she didn't have leave to remain. She is now 29, having lived most of her life in the UK. She has made several previous applications.
Shankea is now making a further application.
Due to the expensive fees of the Home Office we currently need a total of £3,000 to cover the costs of Shankea's legal fees of this application. This includes NHS Fee, Visa Fee and Solicitor's fee. We desperately need your help and any financial contribution, however small, will be appreciated. Due this application being imminent, this money is needed as soon as possible.
She has no way of earning a living and has never received benefits. She is not allowed to work. She desperately wants to work in the country that provided her education, but she hasn't got the correct papers.
She's never claimed benefits and doesn’t have a criminal record. She contributes to her community by doing voluntary work, mentoring young women and campaigning against social injustice.
Shankea is an amazing young woman who has a close community of family and friends in the UK. We would all be devastated if she was taken away from us, deported and lost to our community, never mind the psychological damage it would do to her.
