Patches the hydrocephalus puppy
Donation protected
Back in October, our 501c3 non profit organization, Gentle Souls Pit Bull Rescue, took in almost 20 pit bulls from a breeding/hoarding situation in the town of Trumann.
Sadly, the dogs had been living in their own poop and pee. The dogs were being kept solely as a money maker for their greedy owner. Due to this, the dogs were in very poor condition. 2 of the puppies in Patches litter died before we could take custody of them. A puppy from the other litter we took in had to be put to sleep due to an enlarged heart that was slowly killing her (moving her organs out of place)
Patches was slated to go to a rescue in MN with his litter mates and his mama until a few days ago when their foster told us there was something wrong with him.
A trip to the vet and a diagnosis of hydrocephalus was made. Hydrocephalus is 'water on the brain'. A condition that results from a mom having an infection while pregnant. That is the reason his head is bigger than it should be and the reason he is weeks & weeks behind his siblings as far as development goes.
We have contacted Azzore, a well respected vet clinic in Russellville, AR who specializes in situations such as these.
They said they would be happy to look at him but, we were informed just for the cat scan (to make a for sure diagnosis) it is going to be $800-$1000.
We are hoping our supporters will help us one last time and help raise the money needed to get him diagnosed and surgery done.
I have set this go fund me at $2000. We might have to up it depending on how much surgery is going to cost us. We wont know that until a diagnosis is confirmed!
Some may ask 'Why are you spending so much money on a rescued dog?'. To which we would reply 'Does this dog not deserve a chance at life?'. Would you question someone wanting to spend $1000 on their personal dog or cat?
Patches has been dealt a rotten hand but deserves at least a chance to be normal, and to grow up, and to be a puppy. He is fighting just as hard as he can and is very 'spirited' like a puppy is. He is not coordinated but he tries his best to play with the big dogs.
His foster mom is very cautious with him though, as any slight bump on the head and it can be over for him that quick. (She is also working on making him a 'helmet')
Patches is in a foster home where he is being loved and cared for but we really need to get him into see Azzore for the consult as soon as possible as the earlier we can diagnose, the earlier surgery can be scheduled, the less damage it will do to his body.
