Her Odyssey - Year Two!
Donation protected
Friends, Family, and Potential Supporters,
In the first season of Her Odyssey, we hiked 2,500 kilometers of Patagonia over 144 days, from Ushuaia to Bariloche. We crossed through 15 National Parks and Preserves, 13 degrees of latitude, and back and forth between Argentina and Chile. The journey has radiated energy, accruing followers from North America to Asia and has generated income for guides, artists, restaurants, hospedajes, gardeners, and bakers along our route through South America.
Now we are asking for your help as we prepare to launch a year-long hiking season making our way toward the equator.
Funds for this stretch will enable us to trade with campesinos along the mountain regions of Chile on the Greater Patagonian Trail, to obtain much-needed water drops as we cross the desert of northern Argentina and Chile, and to hire local guides through some of Bolivia and Peru - which promotes outdoor industry & preservation and also supports our safety.
Sharing the adventure via social media requires significantly more time in town than usual thru-hikes. Administrative costs such as technology, shipping, and outreach add to indirect expenses. Connectivity in towns generally means paying local restaurants for seats and eats, and making new friends mean taking showers.
We continue to make all efforts to meet expenses by using our own savings, selling photos and stories, receiving sometimes sneaky support from within our own inner circle, obtaining gear from our amazing sponsors, and utilizing pro-deals to keep the rest of our gear affordable.
We have realized in this first year that the money we can put into local economies is truly one of the best ways to support local industry and individuals. One of the biggest things we have learned from travels so far is that people do not need help, but rather they deserve dividends for the work they are already doing.
Please consider contributing to this upcoming year-long stretch of adventure. Any contribution level with which you’re comfortable is both welcome and appreciated!
Another (non-monetary) way to help is by sharing the blog ( www.her-odyssey.org ), Facebook page ( www.facebook.com/herodyssey ), Instagram (https://instagram.com/_herodyssey_/ ), and this GoFundMe effort with your own social networks.
We are humbled in asking for this amount of support, yet seeing the good it can do affirms us in asking. Our sincere thanks again for your support and for taking a moment to share the campaign with friends.
With Gratitude,
