IRONMAN for Sue and Regina Caeli

Christy O'Brien has sports in her blood. A collegiate athlete who completed her first Ironman nearly 20 years ago, Regina Caeli Academy's (RCA) Center Coordinator of Operations and mother of nine, is tackling that grueling triathlon again - a 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles on the bike and then a full marathon. She feels called to reach beyond her own challenges, in part to encourage everyone to reach beyond themselves when responding to God's call.
This time, Christy will race for a cause, driven by love for Christ, in memory of our dear Sue Scarchilli, and in support of Regina Caeli Academy, a classical homeschool hybrid in fidelity to the Catholic Church.
Last November, Sue Scarchilli, RCA's Center Coordinator of Education, died after a short, intense battle with cancer. In honor of Sue, Christy will compete in the Ironman in Madison, WI on September 10, 2017. While the training hours are long and arduous, Christy is offering her efforts to support RCA, the organization that brought her and Sue together, and continues to serve their families and hundreds of others across the country. Christy noted, "I‘m going to do for Sue just as she did for me. She inspired me to live my life by daring to do the difficult with faith and trust. Even an ordinary life can be lived extraordinarily, and through passion and purpose we can create extraordinary outcomes. This is truly exemplified by the ordinary work of nurturing, forming, and raising up of our children."
