Hewie Seymour Offroad Trackchair
Donation protected
Hewie is a real American Hero that has spent his life helping others. He has always been an active sportsman that has donated time, money, and resources to taking disabled veterans, first responders, and disabled children out "catching" on his boat.
Hewie worked as a firefighter paramedic with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia until he was forced to retire due to PTSD. In 2006 he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. It's a progresssive disease of the nerves and muscles. Hewie's muscles are atrophied and he doesn't have any muscle tone in his legs or arms. There is no cure at this time.
Hewie pushes himself everyday to do as much as possible and stay active. He simply insists on enjoying life, helping others, and having fun. This is becoming more and more difficult as the disease progresses.
Being outside has helped Hewie deal with PTSD from his career as a firefighter. Now the muscular distrophy is severly limiting his ability to get outside and do the things he enjoys and that keep his PTSD managable.
There is a company in Virginia that manufacturers true off road wheel chairs. They are very expensive and insurance does not cover these chairs. The basic cost for the chair Hewie needs is estimated at $17,506. I believe he will need additional help with a trailer and/or van. Yes, the chair does have a gun and fishing rod holder! Here's our chance to help someone that has literally given the shirt off his back to others. Let's help get Hewie out and about again.
