We need your help with travel costs for a dynamic growth opportunity for students.

Students of High School for Recording Arts (HSRA) a charter school based in St. Paul, MN recently completed a documentary film entitled Rondo: Beyond the Pavement, in partnership with Saint Paul Almanac and SPNN.  Rondo: Beyond  the Pavement is a student made documentary to that gives voice to the story of a once thriving neighborhood torn apart by Interstate 94.

Through the efforts of HSRA students, Rondo: Beyond the Pavement has been chosen to screen at the Yofi Microfest Black History Month Showcase in Yonkers, New York  on February 9, 2019. Yofi Fest is considered one of the top 100 film festivals in the world. The film will also show at the SXSW Edu festival on March 3, 2019. The film has also been chosen also compete in the Los Angeles Indie Film Fest.

HSRA students feel so confident with their film Rondo: Beyond the Pavement they have entered it into over 20 international film fests.

Based on the reception that Rondo: Beyond the Pavement has received there is reason to believe the film will be chosen to screen at other film festivals in the coming months.

We need your help to ensure that HSRA has the funding to be able to send our students to the film festivals including the Yofi Microfest.

At the film festivals our students have the opportunity to discuss the making of their film with an engaged audience, while networking with professionals in the media industry. This type of learning experience can be a powerful and transformative experience for HSRA students.

HSRA has also been asked to showcase our students music and video works at this years SXSW Edu festival.

We do not want to deny a life-changing learning experience for our students simply because we do not have the funding.

Please consider supporting HSRA with a financial gift so our students can continue to grow and develop vocational skills and learning opportunities!

“Learning about what happened in the Rondo community while interviewing those who witnessed their homes being destroyed was heartbreaking. It was astounding the resilience they showed. It lit a fire in me. Rondo never stopped trying to rebuild what was there. It gave me a lot of confidence in myself to go after what I love to do in life. I learned that I-94 going through Rondo was a power struggle to limit what the black community could actually do. It didn’t stop us at all.” - Jev Morris Student High School for Recording Arts

HSRA is dedicated to providing all young people a chance to realize their full potential, despite any previous setbacks. As we engage students through music and the exploration and operation of the music business, we demonstrate that core learning areas and real-world, twenty-first century skills can be acquired at the same time. More than just earning a high school diploma, HSRA prepares students for a positive post-secondary education and life.

Rondo: Beyond the Pavement was made in partnership with Saint Paul Almanac and Saint Paul Neighborhood Network. See film trailer and podcast page below:
