So, if you haven’t already heard the news, High Gravity is moving to a new location!
I know, it sounds exciting doesn’t it? Well, it IS and it ISN’T.
What are the “it isn’t” reasons?
First, we didn’t want to move. Our lease was coming up and we were thrilled to be able to sign a new lease for another 5 years without anything changing! But alas, it was not to be. The property has been sold to another company and they’ve decided to raze the center and build anew. Every tenant but Sunshine Furniture and Ross Clothing are being forced to find new homes.
Second, moving is expensive. There are the buildout costs. Thankfully most will be covered by our new landlord but not all of it. There’s the down payment on the new place, the cost of moving our signage, our walk-in fridge, reaplacement shelving, and the checkout counter. The cost of so many things we don’t even know yet… It quickly adds up to much more than a small mom & pop store has on hand.
To be honest, at first we were angry. But after a while the reality sank in and we started the process of finding a new home. It took several months but we finally have one. We are moving to The Village Shopping Center at 68th & Memorial. We will be located to the north of Sun & Ski Sports next to Hard Knocks Laser Tag.
And the place is bigger.
This brings us to the “it is” reasons to be excited.
Once the reality hit us we did some soul searching. What could we do make High Gravity better than before? What could we do that complements our current business and gives us an opportunity to serve our customers even more?
Then it hit us. Open a brewery. Now THAT’S exciting.
That’s right. We are going to start a brewery inside the new High Gravity. We already have a winery license that complements our wine kits and with the new laws allowing breweries to sell directly to consumers from the brewery, we have an opportunity to do that too.
So, to take our business to the next level we are asking for your help. A loan, so to speak. Dave and I don’t like handouts so we are offering incentives as a payback for your help. Help us up front and we will reward you for your help down the line when we are settled in to the new place.
Some of the incentives are financial. For example, your first pint free every time you come to the taproom for a year or a free beer kit every quarter for a year. Others are intangible, like a kit named after you to be sold to our customers for at least one year. Another is Dave coming to your house and setting up your brewing system and walking you through a brewing session. He’ll even bring a growler of beer to share while you brew!
The funds raised will go towards the following expenses:
Licensing and permits for the Brewery
Moving Truck with Lift Gate for Large Items
Moving our Walk-in Refrigerator
Moving our Store Sign
Deposit on new space
Replacement Shelves
Tap Room Build-out
Instant Hot Water Heater
Marketing the New Location and Brewery
Whatever else we haven’t foreseen…
So, we need to get moving quickly. We have to be out of our current location by the end of March, 2017!
If we exceed our goal it will be used towards additional brewing equipment for the Tap Room.
We have such an awesome brewing and winemaking community and we look forward to continuing to serve you for the next 20 years!
