Race To Fund a Clinic in Kerala!
Donation protected
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
We are raising money for the Charity Chiks to support a Medical Centre and Free Clinic project in their Little Flower orphanage in Kerala in South West India. We hope to support the provision of much needed medical treatment for the children Chiks support as well as those living in poverty in the surrounding communities.
A small charity with a big heart, Chiks continues to work tirelessly to try and improve the lives of those far less fortunate than us. We need your help to make this project a reality. Every penny, dollar or cent raised will translate directly to bricks, man hours, vital equipment and expertise.
The project will require the modification and equipping of an existing building, purchasing equipment and staffing the project. As such, we aim to raise £5500 to support the Medical Centre project. We need your help to make this a success and we are not ashamed to ask for it.
To raise as much money as possible and share our passion about this cause and the work that Chiks do, this August we will be competing in a 2,000 mile (3,500km) charity race across the length of India in one of its iconic Tuk-Tuks. Essentially three wheels and a lawnmower engine. Help us make a difference by doing something different and try to leave the world a little better than when we found it.

THE CHARITY
The team will be raising money for Chiks a small but very active charity providing care for over 200 children in three orphanages in Kerala in south west India.
Many of the young boys and girls that arrive there, or who appear at the gates, do so after suffering years of cruelty and neglect. They have lived lives of indescribable poverty, with nowhere to call a home, living in near starvation with little or no health care and seldom education. This wonderfully driven team, with support from donors and sponsors, are working to change the lives of these young people, bringing them health, training, education and perhaps most importantly fun and friendship. They are offering these children a bright future to look forward to, a future they deserve.
THE PROJECT -
The Highway To Health!
Recent years have seen the Chiks orphanage sites develop at a fantastic rate. Many of the children and young people the charity works with have come from tribal communities - often living in poverty in surrounding forests in homes built from anything they can salvage. These children and their families live many miles from any medical services. With no running water, no power and no proper sanitation ill health is common and more often than not fatal. In addition many others have suffered physical and mental abuse without access to care or support. As such the need for an on-site medical centre has become increasingly urgent.
This is where we and hopefully YOU come in!
Through our mad dash across the wilds of India we aim to raise a minimum of £5500 to support the medical centre project and existing sustainable projects at Chiks Little Flower orphange in Kerala, such as a sustainable farm. We have an opportunity to make a difference to the lives of countless young children and local people now and for future generations. So please help us make a difference by doing something different!
THE RACE
To share our passion for Chiks and the work they do we have put together two teams of three to take part in a 3,500km (2000 mile) annual charity race across the length of India . . . . . In a Tuk-Tuk (see below).
It is described as one of the most gruelling and least sensible race on the face of the planet. The race attracts the brave, intrepid and foolhardy alike to raise money for worthwhile charities around the world. With over 70 teams taking part so far, they like us will pit themselves against untamed roads, wild weather and Indian 'Roadsmanship' in the name of charity and trying their best to make the world a slightly better place.
Our two teams (four men and two woman) will set off from Shillong on the 5th August and arrive in Cochin (if all goes well) on the 20th. There is no set route, no back-up and no way of knowing if we're going to make it. However, for those of you that know us, not only will we make it, but we will take a darn good shot at winning it. We will be alone, in a wholly unsuitable vehicle, traversing the subcontinent enduring whatever the road throws at us. Never fear however, In way of preparation I have completed a basic motorcycle maintenance course, expedition medic qualification and have bought a Hindi phrasebook . . . . . . . that should just about cover everything . . . . . .
