Hilltop Children's House Building
Tax deductible
We are establishing a place of beauty, order, peace, and development for children in the heart of a troubled neighborhood in Steubenville, Ohio.
The programs we will bring to the neighborhood are based on a method that has shown to help lower-income children succeed just as well as kids from more wealthy families—the internationally known Montessori method.
Maria Montessori was a doctor in Italy early last century who worked in the slums of Rome. She brought the local kids into her home during the day while their mothers had to go to work, and, being a woman of science and deep care for the human person, she observed their behavior, what aided their learning, what made them grow and flourish, and she tapped into that.
Her educational method is all about helping the children to do for themselves, to tap into their own natural curiosity and desire for order and knowledge, to learn to care for their environment and their fellows, and to appreciate accomplishment.
Our main educational program will be aimed at early childhood, children ages three to six years old, with a religious education program also based in Montessori's methods, later in the day for kids ages three to twelve.
We have raised the money to purchase the building (thanks!), and now are working toward raising the money needed to renovate and furnish the building.
If you are able and willing to support our cause we would be most grateful!
