Security for Hilo UrbFarm
Tax deductible
The Hilo UrbFarm, located at the East Hawai'i Cultural Center, works with schools, nonprofits, and individuals in the community to educate about food, nutrition, composting, and soil health. Our space is hosted by the East Hawai'i Cultural Center in downtown Hilo.
Sadly, we have been the victim of a string of break-ins and vandalism that has devastated our program, ruined many of our plants, and created a significant security concern for our space. Since we work on long term garden projects with school children we want to ensure that our space is safe and secure for our students, volunteers, and our projects. We are asking for donations from the community to help us purchase a security camera system, a new secure gate, and lights for the space. With these tools we can make sure that our space is lit at night, and that there is a secure gate monitored by a camera that will alert us to any activity, which we hope will deter any more break ins, vandalism, or burglary at our nursery. The benefits of our program are not limited to those who participate in our activities. The positive outcome of our endeavors contributes to the well being of our community as a whole, and fosters ownership and accountability for being good stewards of the community. The East Hawai'i Cultural Center has established itself as a foundational fixture for art and culture in east Hawai'i and has served the community for more than fifty years. Please consider making a contribution to this organization today.
