APBA Stock/Mod Nationals Hinton '16

My name is Amie Pond. I am the current secretary of the Carolina Virginia Racing Association (CVRA). We are an outboard boat racing club which has hosted and directed the Travis Pond Memorial Regatta boat race in the town of Hinton, WV for the past several years. This race is dedicated to the memory of my late brother Travis. As anyone that knows our family, you know how much boat racing means to us and plays such a passionate part in our lives. If you are also involved with this sport, then it is probably the same in your family.
This summer CVRA is planning to host the American Powerboat Association’s (APBA) National Championship event on Bluestone Lake in Hinton. This will be the first time a summer nationals have been held here since 1997. The APBA Nationals has been and continues to be the largest outboard race in the country. Not only is it a week-long competition for the national championship, but it is usually a yearly vacation for the racers/crews to spend unique and quality time together as a family. It also gives many of us a chance to visit with other families from across the country that we usually don't see at local races.
This has been in the works for a few years now and we are trying very hard to make it a successful and unforgettable event. Unfortunately, we recently lost our biggest sponsor and are in need of more money than initially anticipated. These funds will contribute to concessions, local ambulance, law enforcement, and department of natural resources assistance, awards, rental costs and catering for our meetings and banquet locations that go along with every summer nationals.
The pristine Bluestone Lake awaits the roar of outboard engines echoing through the Appalachians. You’ve been there before, and if not you’ve heard, this is the place to race boats. Thank you for any donations that you might be able to give and all of the support from our many volunteers that will make this event happen.
