Hit & Run Demolished Geña's Savings
On July 11, 2017 I was driving behind my friend Geña and her daughter Inarú on Highway 28 South. We were both going home after a meeting. While we were en route to the South Side, she was brutally struck on the driver's side of her car. The woman who hit her didn't stop, not even after I chased her for a couple miles, honking my horn for her to pull over the entire way. The woman pulled off onto Route 65 and just sped off. She hit and ran my best friend and her young daughter right in front of my eyes. Luckily Geña has an amazing car and it did not flip over. While we are feeling gratitude and blessings that she and her child survived, the damage done by this callous hit and run driver was expensive, extensive and has made Geña very anxious to drive. We are waiting for the criminal court date to resolve the issue of the hit and run driver. There was a police report made by both Geña as a victim, and I as a witness, as I was driving behind her when it happened, and I saw the whole thing. We are extremely grateful that Geña and her daughter were able to walk away. We are waiting on tests to see if there's any more lingering damage to their physical health.
Anyone who knows Geña knows she is an extremely hard working artist, teacher and mother. She does not receive any financial support from anyone but herself, and this small emergency has caused a major fiscal catastrophe. Geña is excellent at cobbling her resources together and holding it down as a mama bear, but even with her resourcefullness and extreme work ethic, she was just one accident away from drowning under the struggle. She had been saving a small nest egg to put towards her down payment, as she has been dillegently striving to buy a house that she and her daughter can call their forever home, but after this event she went through all of her small savings immediately with doctor visits, car repairs and a serious loss of income.
Her job as an educator doesn't start til next month and she won't be getting her first paycheck until October. The woman who hit her is refusing to admit any wrongdoing and so far her insurance company has refused to pay one dime, even though she hit and ran and there are criminal proceedings happening. Please help Geña from falling through the cracks. She is an amazing asset to our community as both a performing musical artist, an educator and mother of a young diva in training who attends CAPA.
As with most teaching positions, Geña only gets paid during the academic year. She is open to taking students for both Spanish language , music lessons and translation job offers. She is even open to odd job offers like dog walking! She is not thrilled about having to ask for help but her friends have been begging her to do a gofundme since the accident and we are really hoping you will be able to help us help her so she can raise enough money to give her a 2 month long cushion to get back on her feet and begin saving towards her house again.
Funds are needed pretty immediately. She has gone through her entire savings since the accident over a month ago and all help, financial and any reasonable job offers would be a blessing on Geña and her daughter.
We Thank You for any support you can offer.
