Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy is a small charter school in Lindon, Utah. Our school is made up of grades 7-12. As an educational community our motto is to empower and inspire "...students to learn continually, think critically, and communicate effectively through Socratic methods in order to better themselves and their community."
We are attempting to raise funds for our middle school drama production of Roger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Because we are a small school, we have an interesting performance space. We do not have a theater, but a gymnatheater-we have basketball practice and rehersals running at the same time with only the curtain to separate the different activites.
As a middle school drama team we focus our energy on student production. Students and parent volunteers design and paint the sets and sew the costumes. Students learn food safety from a parent volunteer and make the concessions they sell. We have student directors running rehersals and giving stage make-up tutorials. The students run the ticket sales and seat our guests. The students help design our logo and use their creativity to market the show. The students gain hands on experience as they navigate the various aspects of the theater world, and they love their product.
Donations made to this production of Cinderella will assist in covering the costs for the costumes and sets that were all made by students or parent volunteers. We would also use donations to continue to improve our light and sound capabilities. Our equipment is somewhat archaic and could use an upgrade.
Our drama team is a family and has built a strong legacy of excellence. We our constantly amazed as we watch students on stage, back stage, in the kitchen, operating the front of house, designing t-shirts and logos, and hitting their light cues. They always strive to try something new and fail with boldness.
We appreciate any assistance that will help us continue to mentor students as they continue to design and produce quality work for arts. Thank you!
