Holistic Public Health in Ahousaht

Thank you so much for supporting this campaign for Chah Chim Hii yup tiic miss, the holistic healing center serving the First Nations community of Ahousaht in British Columbia, Canada!
The Ahousaht Nation claims about 2000 members, 1000 of whom live together on a small island blessed with thick, wild rainforest and pristine Northern beaches, accessible only by air or a 20 minute speedboat ride from west Vancouver Island. The story of Ahousaht is a familiar one for the world’s Indigenous in the wake of 500 years of Colonialist conquest. Genocide and forcible cultural assimilation through “Residential Schools” - boarding schools where First Nations children were subjected to extreme physical and psychological abuse, the last one of which closed in 1996 - have left a dark legacy. Yet, there exists simultaneously in Ahousaht so much joy and willingness to help one another as one big family. Many leaders there are involved in grassroots projects to provide people with everyday support and keep ancient cultural healing practices alive in the face of great challenges.
The Chah Chim Hii yup tiic miss health center serves as a hub for these activities, offering mental health and nutrition counseling, fitness and yoga, maternal and child health care, elder services, and a link to cultural events that nourish the souls of the Ahousaht people. It’s a crucial part of the collective healing that’s happening step by step and the staff there are doing truly heroic work, despite chronic underfunding. Every little bit helps in supporting this worthy organization, a lifeline to the people of Ahousaht.
Thank you for taking the time to make a difference and for your donation!
