Fork Off Manchester Homeless events

Donation protected
On the 17th of December, following on from a successful Christmas, Mother's day, Summer BBQ, and back2skool meals, our community initiative ForkOff will hold our Second Xmas meal for the homeless at a confidential location in South Manchester. Marking a full year of doing events for the homeless.

Organised for the increasing number of homeless in Manchester’s city centre our events have been attended by over  219 guests so far.  13 of whom are now homed.

“I wanted to create days where people were indoors, somewhere warm, enjoying listening to bands, being served a meal by others. To put people at ease, and at the same time for them to have a GP at their beck and call, benefits and housing advice, a barber and access to free new clothes. Most importantly I want our guests to feel included, to be able to socialise with friendly people and feel part of our group. This is why I pick dates of significance; Christmas, Mother’s day, dates when perhaps guests are most reminded of their loneliness.” Nathalie from ForkOff.

Guests are referred in from big charities; including the Booth Centre, Cornerstones CDS, Coffee4Craig, Lifeshare, Centrepoint and Reach Out to the Community; we do this with a voucher system to ensure that no one is turned away on the day.

“We have happily supported ForkOff for our people. We recognise that these times of year can be where some people feel at their loneliest.” Amy from the Booth Centre.

The ForkOff ethos is ‘BegBorrowBarter’. The chef, GP, advisers, barber and volunteers all donate their time for free. Kind food donators have been Frosts the Butchers, Forest Foods, Elliot’s Greengrocers, Barbakan Deli, Chapati Cafe, Morrisons and Booker.

Bands donate their music, the venue is donated, the food is donated, the plates and cutlery donated via an Amazon wishlist, (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/3S76AXN38V1I4/ref=cm_wl_list_o_1

“The support we have received and the partnerships we have formed have made all this possible, it has been humbling to meet people who are so happy to come to our events. We are very grateful to be able to do this for them." Nathalie adds.

Thank you for your support - £1,000 means we can run these crucial indoor provisions for 2nd whole year!
