My name is Steven Neville and I have a vision xx A vision of a world of Collaborative Compassion.

A world where everybody cares for everybody.

So I created the Portable bed project as a way of connecting with and assisting those without a bed sleeping on the streets and to help raise awareness of the issues we have within our society due to a politically unjust world.

What I do is supply people on the streets with a small light weight  portable camping beds, bedding clothing, toiletries and hoping with funding a portable shower on a trailor which will cost about 10,000, a compassionate understanding ear from someone who has been there and come back to help others break the cycle xx

The beds cost $24.95 each from Anaconda and have now proven to be a symplistic but beneficial way of ensuring people are more comfortable and healthier as  sleeping on the hard ground causes all sorts of health issues.

Why am I helping? Because I too was once homeless for over 6 years in Melbourne and I can remember the feeling of those cold nights sleeping on the streets very well,  I still get chills thinking about it. That was in the 90's and early 2000, now.....The problem is even worse than it was back than and I am passionate about making a difference.

‘The Portable Bed Project’ has now been in operation for seven months, and in that time has crowd funded over $7,000 and used that money to distribute over 540 portable beds along with sleeping bags, toiletries, clothing and compassion to the homeless and those in need of assistance in Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat.

2017 is the year I really want to get things going and I am looking at expanding operations to include a portable shower service called ‘The Portable Shower Project’ to improve dignity, health and safety for the homeless.
The Salvation Army last year was forced to closed their shower service in Geelong due to Government funding cuts and people are now forced to use public showers at the beach which is causing issues with the public and council officials as I  understand it.
This is why I am now planning to start a mobile shower service which will regularly
attend ‘The Outpost’ and homeless camps along the river  here in
Geelong, then in time expanding to Warrnambool, Ballarat, Bendigo and Shepparton when possible.

Beds, blanket/sleeping bags, clothing and other necessary hygiene items are easily sought through my crowd funding system but what I need is corporate
backing to really make a massive impact and continue to ‘be the change’ I want to see in society.

I’m often helped out with small auction items from Geelong FC, Bunnings, Big4 and other local businesses and awesome community support but nothing really substantial yet to make a huge impact on the situation.

I’m hoping we can work together on a larger scale as I really need funding for a reliable van,  mobile shower on a trailer.
