Honor Captain Alexi Whitney, USMC
Donation protected
***The amount being raised has been increased because we plan to put the bust on a large marble slab (probably around 8 feet high). This slab will have every Bates veterans' name carved into it. If there are any excess funds then we will donate those to the SSgt Mills Foundation, which is based in Maine. This foundation was formed to benefit and assist wounded and injured veterans and their families.
All donations are tax deductible! Tax ID#: 45-4650370
Captain George "Alexi" Whitney, USMC is an American hero. I would like to create a bust to honor his memory and make sure his story is never forgotten.
Captain Whitney graduated from Bates College, cum laude, was the starting fullback on the football team, and a starting midfielder for the lacrosse team. If you are not familiar with Bates, this is an incredibly challenging academic institution, so to excel in the classroom and athletically is no small task. After college, Captain Whitney served in the 3rd Marine Reconnaissance Battalion in Anbar, Iraq in 2005. He later joined the C.I.A and continued his service to our great country. In December 2016, Captain Whitney made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and was killed in action while serving in the C.I.A. during an operation in Afghanistan.
The artist that would create this bust is Colonel Lee Busby, USMC (Ret.), who immediately volunteered for the opportunity to honor Captain Whitney. Colonel Busby has sculpted numerous service members that have been killed in action in Afghanistan and Iraq, and does so solely out of the goodness of his heart. His artwork can be seen in a clip below.
Any amount of support is greatly appreciated and I promise you that this bust will honor the memory of Captain Whitney. Thank you for your time and consideration.
