Since 2011, Venice Middle Young Marines has been teaching the values of discipline, courage and selfless service to it's members, middle school students between the ages of 11 and 15 who all volunteer to be part of this full day magnet program, the first of it's kind in a public school. Every two years, we seek to take a transformational trip to teach our students about the history of American's veterans and their service and sacrifice for our great country. In 2014, we were invited to the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC, where we served to carry flags, banners and provided other means of support to the parade. In 2016, we attended the 75th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and we participated in the parade, laid a wreath at the Punchbowl National Cemetery and other ceremonies commemorating the event while getting to meet survivors of the attack and hear their stories firsthand. In 2019, we have been asked to help recognize another of the most important events in modern history and to celebrate the bravery of the servicemen who fought there, the D-Day attack in Normandy, France. We will be taking 65 Young Marines to lay wreaths at the American Cemetery and march in the June 6th, 2019 Parade in St. Mere Eglise to honor the bravery of the men who helped to liberate Europe and the World! As you can imagine, this is an expensive trip and all of our Young Marines are actively fund raising locally. All funds which will be raised through this Go Fund Me account will go to support the Young Marines in greatest financial need! Please help make this event happen for these deserving and patriotic young people!
