With heavy hearts, I am sharing the passing of my beloved father, our Soorena.
My dad was a remarkable man whose life was defined by tenacity, innovation, integrity, courage, and deep love for his family, friends, and culture. An immigrant from Iran, he came to this country carrying ambition, vision, and an unshakable belief that obstacles were simply problems waiting to be solved. From a young age, he became an entrepreneur, built and owned several technology businesses, and held multiple U.S. patents. He was the kind of person who saw possibilities where others saw limits.
He taught his children — Soorena II, Sara, and Sirus — to believe that nothing was impossible, that challenges could be overcome, and that there was no such thing as an accident. He raised us alongside my mother, Deborah, his first wife of over 30 years. Together, my mom and dad pursued one of their greatest projects in life - they built a family that in a loving and supportive home filled with abundance, culture, strength, and hope. Those years shaped who we are and remain a central part of his legacy.
Later in life, my father remarried, Fernalyn, who shared in the final chapter of his life and was present through all of the health challenges he faced. Becoming his eyes, his voice, and his hands when my father was challenged with so much. Together, Fernalyn and my dad were unstoppable.
Shortly after marrying Fernalyn, our father was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia. In true form, he fought with everything he had — and beat leukemia in less than a year. After a stem cell transplant, he developed a rare and complicated condition called thrombotic microangiopathy, or TMA. Along with other serious health complications, this ultimately led to his passing.
Even through unimaginable medical challenges, our father remained a fighter. He pushed the boundaries of what was possible as a patient, and his strength, determination, and will to live inspired everyone who knew him. He never stopped being himself: brilliant, stubborn, loving, inventive, and deeply committed to the people he cared about.
Unfortunately, our father did not leave behind a will, life insurance, or savings set aside for funeral, memorial, burial, or end-of-life expenses. As his children and family work to honor him, we are asking for support to help cover the costs associated with his mortuary care, cemetery expenses, funeral and memorial services, and our hope of giving him a traditional full-body burial.
Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help us honor our father’s memory with dignity and love. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean so much to our family.
Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly difficult time. We are deeply grateful for every message, every prayer, every memory, and every act of kindness.
