Hope & Music - 1 Year Update & New Program for Girls
Hello Everyone,
We are very excited to have completed all three phases of the project since our first trip to Michoacán with a truck load of instruments and an open door for the children and their families. Here's a recap of the goals we've reached:
Phase 1. Supplied instruments to 3 indigenous villages in Aquila including a primary school in La Ticla while gained community support and interest.
Phase 2. Secured a youth center location in La Placita with 6-10 kids visiting 3 days a week, often with their families.
Phase 3. The youth center music program remains open 3 days a week with music lessons and supervision provided by older teens and adults. We hope to build on this progress with the help from community member as they volunteer at the youth center and contribute to the sustainability of the project.
Thank you to all of those that have supported our efforts and contributed to the project. You made it possible. You are the “we” in “we’ve succeeded and reached our goals”.
New Program - Art & Photography (For Girls Only)
Building Employable Skills in Journalism - the Fun Way!
Although the youth center and music program has been successful and becoming self-sustaining, its not enough for the girls who need an exclusive program - lead by a woman - that will build skills that lead to solid careers and college goals. By combining art and photography together with local story writing, the girls can publish a small town paper. Besides publishing a paper, the girls will learn communication skills, photography, art, design and writing. All great skills that can lead to a number of college and career choices.
To make this possible, funding is needed for art and camera supplies. A small budget of $1,500 will make it possible to start this program for the girls, beginning in the town of La Placita. With your support, we can build on our success with the youth center and music program and give real opportunity to the girls of these villages. Please donate to help.
Your contribution will go a long way. Thank you again for all of you support and encouragement. Make sure to watch the new videos and please share with others.
Sincerely,
Bob Caligiuri
