Ongoing Support Fund Almost Home
Donation protected
Almost Home is an all volunteer staffed facility that is dedicated to the love, care and placement of dogs that are placed in our care. We are a Non-profit 501 C3. We have been given the responsibility of caring for the dogs of the city of Van Buren that are brought to the Animal Control building, which is currently is rough condition. Since taking over the pound, we have adopted out nearly 200 dogs. We have 16 stationary pens along with several small portable pens for small dogs inside the building which was only for 10 dogs. Outside, we have 6 stationary pens out front, 2 to the side, 4 behind the building, and 5 in the "puppy yard." There are some holding pens that are used when we walk the dogs, which have been damaged due to some rather powerful dogs that we have to keep repaired. 10 of the inside pens installed by the city several years ago, are literally falling apart. We try to make temporary repairs the best we can. We have around 40 dogs housed at the facility. The dogs are brought in by the Police Dept. Animal Control officers. We try to find the owners, but if a dog is not claimed after 5 days, we will have them spayed or neutered, and then try to adopt them out or put them on transports. We continue to work to be a no-kill facility. We contine to need to update the facilty. We are operating via few donations and volunteers. We continue to need funds for basic medical expenses and treatment, including spaying or neutering, parvo treatment, heart worm treatment, parasite treatments, pens and supplies. We want to eventually be able to implant chips in the dogs that we adopt out ourselves; and we are seeking to facilitate further kennel expansion.
