Hug Detroit Day Backpacks & School Supplies Drive

Detroit, MI- (May 28, 2019) Sunday, August 25, 2019, 11:00 AM-11:00 PM, Unlimited Sky Production , Leep , Isaac Robinson and Peacemakers, will host the 7th Annual HUG DETROIT DAY , “ Backpack & School Supplies Drive” ,  to benefit children in need. By collecting the much needed school supplies and backpacks each year, We, as a community , get serve our neighbors here and abroad with the essential things , to make life simpler, helping students to focus, and win. Also this year we are proud to announce Peacemaker’s joins Hug Detroit Day as our International liaisons. A portion of this years proceeds will go to the Covenant House and  provide school supplies for one chosen school in Nigeria.

HUG Detroit Day started in August of 2013. It is the vision of Sky Covington and Sheila Everett -Hale who shared their desire and passion to take one day out of the year to literally HUG Detroit and its people.  We want to show appreciation for the inspiring accomplishments of this great city and the people therein … to thank those who stayed here through the storm and those who came to help us rise above and excel as we create a New Detroit and new ways of being and doing things together.


It is estimated to cost $20-$35 to fill one backpack with the basic supplies needed this school year.  Your contribution will be rewarded with an amazing free concert of 13 acts, 2019 Hair Show and a few surprises.

We will collect backpacks, supplies and monetary donations May 1st - Aug. 27. This years portion of the donations will go to Covenant House , and a portion will go to Rebecca Modupeore in Nigeria, by way of our new partners/international liaison Peacemakers. Along with being a fantastic party and talent showcase, the 7th Annual Hug Detroit Spirit Awards each year takes a moment of silence, honoring Detroit's Risen Angels. In loving memory of and, Honoring: Harvey Fuqua, Renaldo “Obie’ Benson, Roy Brooks, Gil Heron, Daisey Bailey, Washboard Willie, Hubie Crawford, Proof, Terry Thunder Hughley, Marcus Belgrave, Orthea Barnes, Pete Peterson , Ron Priest and Paul Carey.
