Hurricane Relief For Jenny Hanley
Donation protected
My 60 year old single mother-in-law Jennifer Hanley resides on the island of St. Maarten which was devastatingly destroyed during Hurricane Irma, last month in September. It took several days to learn if she was alive after the hurricane had struck. She and her small dog, managed to flee her house before losing the roof of her home. As she opened the door to leave, the door blew off of it's hinges due to the category 5 winds resulting in both the loss of property inside the home as well as substantial damage to the structure. Her taxi-bus that she happily drove tourists around in was also damaged.
There is no electricity in her home, however she does have a gas stove which allows her to cook food if and when it is available to her.
Her house needs to be repaired from water damage, she requires money for zinc roofing, to reinforce the walls, doors, windows and for light fixtures, furniture, bedding, clothing and other household items. She feels her vehicle may be reparable, but will need all the windows repaired as well as some body work. There is no work for her on the island and likely won't be for some time as tourism is the major source of income. It will be months before the airport and piers are fully repaired as well as hotels, restaurants, stores etc. to accommodate tourists. She will need money to live from during the rebuilding period.
We expect the costs to exceed 20K but my husband and I are covering as much of the expense as we can. We are looking to raise these funds by the end of November 2017, as we are told that flights from Canada will then be up and running at which time I will take the funds along with a variety of other supplies and necessities.
I truly appreciate anything you are able to assist with.
with gratitude,
Priya Ali
